For twenty one years, and counting, God has given me the express privilege of serving the Appalachian Trail Community in a wide variety of ways.

In 1999 I fulfilled a decades long dream of hiking the world’s most famous footpath from Georgia to Maine, and thought that “adventure of a lifetime” would be it for me.  God however, had different plans.  During the course of that magical Spring and Summer He captured my heart; not for the Trail, but for the hikers who sojourn along it.

In ways only the Lord Himself could orchestrate, He began “ordering my steps” (Proverbs 16:9), and making it clear to me my 1999 “adventure of a lifetime” was about to become His “lifetime of adventure” for me.

So, in November of 2002, on my knees beside a road on the way to visit (who else?) a couple of hikers, I gave in to God’s clear directive (one that took three and a half years to become demonstrably evident), and have enjoyed His incomparable “path” ever since.  There is no fulfillment like that of knowing you are exactly where God wants you to be, doing exactly what you know He wants you to do.

I am often asked why I hike the same Trail year after year.  The answer is simple.  I do it because this is where God has placed me; to love these people, and show them there is grace, joy, and fulfillment to be found in the Saving Life of Christ (Romans 5:10).
